As has recently been publicized, Anne Ayalon, wife of Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon, converted to Judaism from an evangelical family. Under the headline "Money on the Sea of Galilee: Anne Ayalon walks on the water," Calcalist this week devoted a lengthy article to her cooperation with Christian Zionists of the ilk of John Hagee - together with a less conspicuous Orthodox partner - in promoting Christian tourism to the Galilee by building a hotel and resort and retreat complex: "An American Christian who converted and married Israel's Deputy Foreign Minister is founding, with an Orthodox Jew, a hotel for pilgrims on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Spiritual assistance and funding will come from an influential evangelical preacher who is at home in the White House and has been a long-standing friend of the Deputy Foreign Minister from the beginning of the story. Add spiritual sponsorship from the rabbinic establishment, and you end up with a tourist venture all of whose participants are convinced can only do good, God willing."
