Matzav Ruach, July 17, 2020

Once a year, on June 14th, Carmelite priests hold a mass in a synagogue located in the Cave of Elijah on Mount Carmel. This may be the only active Synagogue that holds a Christian mass in the world. How this tradition came about is unknown, but the cave used to be settled by Sufi Muslims who allowed Jews, Christians, and Druze pray there. Today the cave only has a synagogue in it, but the status quo of allowing Christians in has continued.
